Born Cristhian Camilo Mena Moreno in Quibdó, on Colombia’s Pacific coast, Saga WhiteBlack began his musical journey in the neighborhoods of his hometown. After moving to Medellín as a child, he later returned to Quibdó, where he discovered his passion for music in ninth grade. His early days were spent freestyling with friends over American hip-hop beats. Limited access to new instrumentals led him to FL Studio Version 3, where he took his first steps as a beatmaker.
Those sessions gave rise to a group called La Saga. When Cristhian returned to Medellín to continue his university studies, the original group eventually dissolved, but he kept Saga as his artistic name—a tribute to those formative years and the collective spirit that started it all.
WhiteBlack and early recognition
In 2007, Saga formed WhiteBlack with his close friend Sonyc. After navigating the duo’s early identity, they became known as Saga y Sonyc, releasing singles and performing at clubs and local events. A comment from local rapper Dominic Perez later inspired the name Saga WhiteBlack, which became his producer signature. Under that name, he began working with recognized local artists including Gran Chester, Pipe Calderon and Yelsid.
The international breakthrough
In 2013, Nicky Jam brought Saga on as an engineer and producer. Their collaboration helped create landmark records in urban music, including “El Perdón” featuring Enrique Iglesias and “Hasta el Amanecer.” His work has since connected him with leading Latin artists including J Balvin, Shakira, Romeo Santos and Maluma, earning recognition in categories such as Producer of the Year at the Latin Billboard Awards as well as Latin Grammy nominations.
Artist and entrepreneur
Beyond his work as a producer, Saga has continued to develop as an artist. His single “Quédate,” with Nacho, Brray and Sevensito, and his collaboration on “C.U.L.I.T.O” reflect that side of his career. He has performed across Miami and Ecuador and shared the stage with artists such as Romeo Santos.
He also founded Poison Music with a long-term vision for the label in urban music. “I love learning about the music business,” he says, “and I see Poison Music becoming one of the genre’s most important labels.” Saga lives in Miami, where he works from his own studio and develops beats and collaborations for upcoming releases.
